Figure 5-3d: Computer-simulated chemostats. Panel D shows the same chemostat (as panel A) except with the phage burst size reduced by one half. Phage and bacterial densities during simulations were sampled for inclusion in graphs once every 30 min. These simulated chemostats contain no phage-resistant bacteria or other bacterial refuges from phage attack. Extinction is assumed to occur at or below densities of 10^-2/ml. Time steps are 1 min; the initial host (solid lines) and phage (dotted lines) densities are 10⁴/ml and 10⁵/ml, respectively.
