The mIHF host factor does not bind specifically to att site DNA but occupies the indicated areas in the presence of integrase. Integration requires both integrase (Int) and mIHF); excision requires Xis in addition to Int and mIHF. Xis binds specifically to four closely spaced sites (X1-X4) adjacent to P2.
